Our Cowbridge branch celebrates £100 million savings milestone
December 17, 2025
We are delighted to celebrate a significant milestone at our Cowbridge branch, which has now surpassed £100 million in savings balances, highlighting the continued confidence local people place in the Society’s mutual, member-focused approach.
Opened on 11 December 2017, the Cowbridge branch has gone from strength to strength over the past eight years. It now supports 4,333 live savings accounts, employs 12 members of staff, and plays a key role in mortgage lending across the area, with mortgage balances exceeding £219 million.
The achievement reflects both the growth of the Cowbridge branch and our Society’s wider success across Wales, as it continues to perform strongly while remaining firmly rooted in its communities. As a mutual organisation owned by its members, we are able to prioritise long-term relationships, competitive savings products and personal service, rather than short-term shareholder returns.
Our Cowbridge branch has become a trusted and well-established presence in the town, supporting savers and borrowers alike while contributing to the local economy through employment and community engagement. Reaching the £100 million savings milestone marks an important moment in the branch’s development and demonstrates the value members continue to place on a strong local branch network.
Richard Miles, Head of Savings & Marketing and Area Manager East at Swansea Building Society, said:
“Reaching £100 million in savings balances at our Cowbridge branch is a fantastic achievement and one that reflects the trust our members place in us. Since opening in 2017, the branch has grown steadily thanks to the dedication of our local team and the support of the community. We firmly believe in investing in branches and keeping a strong local presence, while also giving members the flexibility of modern online services. This milestone shows that when you combine personal, face-to-face service with digital convenience, it’s a model that continues to resonate with our members.”
Alun Williams, our Chief Executive, added:
“This milestone is a real credit to the Cowbridge team and the hard work they put in day in, day out to support our members. I’d like to congratulate everyone involved on what is a fantastic achievement, and in particular to thank Richard for his leadership as Area Manager, and Chris Rice as Branch Manager for playing such an important role as part of this great team in his first year with the Society. Reaching £100 million in savings is something to be incredibly proud of and clearly demonstrates the strength of our people, our values and our commitment to the communities we serve.”
