Proud to support South Wales foodbanks
December 13, 2021
We are delighted to have been able to donate a total of £1,000 to four foodbanks across South Wales, to help people in need in the run up to Christmas.
Our Society has donated £250 each to Carmarthen Foodbank, Mumbles Foodbank, Uplands Foodbank and Vale Foodbank, Barry. The donations were made to each foodbank by their closest respective Swansea Building Society branch: Carmarthen, Mumbles, Swansea and Cowbridge.
All of the four foodbanks who received donations from us are supported by The Trussell Trust and are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
The Foodbank Network, which consists of 428 foodbanks, was founded in 2004 after four years of developing the original foodbank based in Salisbury. Since then, The Trussell Trust has helped communities work together to launch foodbanks nationwide in an array of towns and cities.
In 2020 to 2021, The Trussell Trust’s Foodbank Network provided 2,537,198 three-day emergency food supplies and support to UK people in crisis. Of these, 980,082 went to children.
Alun Williams, our Chief Executive, said:
“The pandemic has continued to make this a difficult year for many. I am, therefore, extremely proud that our Society has been able to make this series of donations to the foodbanks which operate in the regions in which we have branches.
“The work these foodbanks do is vital to help those who are struggling to be able to feed themselves and their families. At this time of the year, and especially during the pandemic, this is even more important, so it makes us very happy to be able to give back to our local communities in this way.”
