Proudly supporting local athlete's journey to World SUP and Paddleboard Championships

We are proud to announce our support for a dedicated young athlete and valued customer, Joe Jones, as he prepares to compete in the World SUP and Paddleboard Championships in Copenhagen this September.

Joe's journey to the world stage is a testament to his resilience and passion. After a promising rugby career was cut short by a serious shoulder injury at the age of 15, Joe underwent a series of invasive surgeries in 2022. During his rehabilitation, he discovered a new passion for paddle boarding, particularly in distance racing. His determination to compete at the highest level has led him to the upcoming world championships, a prestigious event that draws top athletes from around the globe.

As participation in these championships is self-funded, our Society is sponsoring Joe to help him achieve his dream. Together, Joe and his teammate, Emily Evans, competing in the women's events, will showcase the remarkable talent that Wales has to offer on an international platform.

Jane Parker, our Area Manager for Swansea, Neath & Port Talbot, recently met with Joe and his father Chris at our Portland Street branch to discuss the forthcoming championships. "It is a pleasure to see such an ambitious, young man with immense passion to achieve great things," said Jane Parker. "Supporting Joe reaffirms our commitment to the youth of Swansea, empowering them to reach their full potential. With our Society and the community of Swansea and Gower behind them, we wish Joe and Emily the best of luck in achieving their dreams of winning a trophy next month."
