Our Society donates £10,000 to Prostate Cymru to support Specialist Cancer Nurses across Wales

We have recently donated £10,000 to Prostate Cymru following a series of fundraising efforts by our staff, with the money set to support the charity’s Walk of Wales initiative and help fund Specialist Cancer Nurses across Wales.

Our staff have taken on a range of challenges to raise money for Prostate Cymru this year, including the Three Peaks Challenge, a Wing Walk, multiple runs and a number of other individual fundraising activities.

The £10,000 donation will contribute towards Prostate Cymru’s ambition to place six Specialist Cancer Nurses across Wales, with one dedicated professional in each health board area that currently lacks this specialist support.

The latest donation builds on our long-standing and growing relationship with Prostate Cymru. We first named the charity as our Charity of the Year in 2025, with the partnership carrying particular personal significance following the prostate cancer diagnosis of Martin Lewis, the Society’s Area Manager for England.

In April 2024, Martin was diagnosed with prostate cancer after attending a Prostate Cymru PSA testing event held in conjunction with Swansea City Football Club. He had experienced no prior symptoms, underlining the importance of early detection and accessible testing.

Our Society went on to raise more than £25,000 for Prostate Cymru during 2025, supporting the charity’s vital work to raise awareness, fund research and provide access to potentially life-saving PSA blood tests.

As part of that support, we sponsored PSA testing events in Cowbridge, Swansea and Carmarthen, enabling 1,134 men to be tested. Of those, 63 received urgent ‘red letter’ referrals requiring immediate medical follow-up.

The success and impact of the partnership meant that our Society was named Corporate Fundraiser of the Year at the Prostate Cymru Blue Tie Ball in Cardiff, in recognition of our fundraising and awareness efforts, and we have been delighted to continue our support into 2026.

These nurses will provide vital support to people and families affected by prostate cancer, creating a lasting benefit for communities across Wales.

Prostate Cymru works to support people affected by prostate cancer across Wales through awareness, early detection, research and specialist support. Its Walk of Wales campaign aims to help address gaps in specialist cancer care by funding six Specialist Cancer Nurses, with one based in each health board area that currently does not have a dedicated professional.

Our £10,000 donation will help support that ambition, building on our continued commitment to improving prostate cancer awareness and helping ensure more people across Wales can access the information, testing and support they need.
