Celebrating three years of impact: our partnership with Maggie’s
December 18, 2024
We are proud to celebrate the conclusion of our remarkable three-year partnership with Maggie’s Swansea, during which the charity served as our Society’s official staff charity. Over this time, together with our staff, members, and the wider community, we’ve raised and donated over £90,000 to support Maggie’s vital work in helping individuals and families affected by cancer across South West Wales.
Since 2022, we’ve been unwavering in our commitment to Maggie’s Swansea, taking part in a wide range of fundraising activities. These efforts have included fire walks, sponsored dog walks (affectionately called ‘mutt struts’), the challenging Welsh Three Peaks climb, a month-long ‘dip a day’ open-water swimming challenge, and participation in events such as the Swansea 10k and Half Marathon. During our centenary year in 2023, we were especially proud to dedicate all funds raised during this milestone celebration to Maggie’s.
Our commitment to Maggie’s extended beyond traditional fundraising events. We were proud to sponsor Maggie’s Annual Ball as the headline sponsor for three consecutive years and also supported the charity’s inaugural and subsequent Christmas Extravaganza events. These high-profile occasions not only raised significant funds but also increased awareness of the invaluable services Maggie’s Swansea provides.
Located within Singleton Hospital, Maggie’s Swansea offers a warm, welcoming space for people affected by cancer and their families. The funds we raised have played an essential role in ensuring that Maggie’s can continue to offer free access to practical advice, emotional support, and group workshops for all who need them.
Alun Williams, our Chief Executive Officer, shared his thoughts on the partnership:
“Our partnership with Maggie’s Swansea over the past three years has been a deeply rewarding experience for everyone at Swansea Building Society. The incredible amount raised is a testament to the enthusiasm and generosity of our staff, members, and the local community. Maggie’s provides essential support to people at one of the most challenging times in their lives, and it has been a privilege to contribute to their work. While our time as Maggie’s official charity partner concludes, our commitment to supporting our community remains as strong as ever, and we will undoubtedly work with them again in the future.”
Lucia Osmond, Centre Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Swansea, added:
“Swansea Building Society’s support has been nothing short of extraordinary. The dedication and creativity shown in their fundraising efforts have had a tangible impact on our ability to deliver free practical, emotional, and psychological support to those navigating the challenges of cancer. We are immensely grateful for their partnership over the last three years.”
As we prepare to announce a new charity partner in January 2025, we reflect on this incredible collaboration with Maggie’s Swansea. The profound impact we’ve made together will resonate for years to come, and we remain committed to making a difference in our community.
