We are delighted to announced that Llys Nini will receive £2,000 from our special £25,000 charitable fund established to mark our Chief Executive Alun Williams' 25 years at the helm of the Society.
With £20,000 already pledged to Faith in Families and a further £2,000 now being awarded to Llys Nini, we have so far committed £22,000 of our special anniversary fund, with the final £3,000 to be announced later this year.
Llys Nini has been selected in recognition of the vital work it carries out rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals from across South Wales. The independent, self-funding charity, which is affiliated with the RSPCA, helps thousands of animals each year and relies heavily on donations and volunteers to continue its work. Over the past 25 years, the charity has rehomed more than 22,000 animals and has become one of the UK's leading animal welfare charities. The centre in Penllergaer also plays an important role in the local community through its education programmes, volunteering opportunities and community facilities.
The organisation also has a long-standing relationship with us, here at Swansea Building Society, as a business savings customer, with our staff supporting the charity in a variety of ways over many years.
Most recently, a team of 14 colleagues spent a day volunteering at Llys Nini, helping with practical tasks around the animal centre. Many members of staff also support the charity throughout the year, giving their time and assistance whenever needed.
Alun Williams, our Chief Executive, said:
"At Swansea Building Society, we believe supporting our communities means much more than simply making donations.
"Llys Nini does incredible work caring for vulnerable and abandoned animals across South Wales, and we know first-hand just how much support charities like this need, not only financially but also through practical help and volunteering.
"We are proud to have a longstanding relationship with Llys Nini as one of our business savings customers, but our connection goes far beyond banking. Many of our colleagues have supported the charity over the years, and it was fantastic to see 14 members of our team recently spending the day volunteering at the centre.
"This donation is another way of recognising the incredible contribution that Llys Nini makes to our communities and helping ensure it can continue its important work."
Lauren Pethybridge, Branch CEO at Llys Nini, said:
"We are extremely grateful to Swansea Building Society for this generous donation and for the continued support shown by its staff.
"As an independent, self-funding charity, we rely heavily on the kindness of businesses and individuals across our region. The practical support provided by the Society's team through volunteering, alongside this financial contribution, will make a real difference to the animals in our care."
The £25,000 anniversary fund was created to celebrate Alun Williams' 25 years as Chief Executive of Swansea Building Society and is in addition to the Society's ongoing charitable giving programme, including its support for Prostate Cymru, the Society's official charity partner for 2026.
Further announcements regarding the remaining allocation from the anniversary fund will be made later this year.
