We are delighted to announce that the final £3,000 from the special £25,000 charitable fund established to mark our Chief Executive Alun Williams' 25 years leading Swansea Building Society will be donated to YMCA Cardiff.
The donation completes Alun’s anniversary fund, which has seen £20,000 awarded to Faith in Families, £2,000 donated to Llys Nini and now £3,000 presented to YMCA Cardiff.
YMCA Cardiff has been supporting young people and communities across the Welsh capital for more than 170 years. The charity provides a wide range of services, including accommodation and support for young people experiencing homelessness, wellbeing initiatives, education and training opportunities, youth work and community programmes, helping people to build brighter, more independent futures.
The charity was selected in recognition of the life-changing work it carries out supporting some of the most vulnerable people in the community, helping individuals overcome challenges and realise their potential.
Alun Williams, our Chief Executive, said:
"When we established this £25,000 fund, we wanted it to celebrate not just my 25 years with the Society, but the values that have always been at the heart of Swansea Building Society - supporting the communities we serve and helping organisations that make a genuine difference to people's lives.
"YMCA Cardiff has an outstanding reputation for providing practical support, opportunities and hope to people facing difficult circumstances. The work it carries out every day transforms lives, and we are delighted to be able to support the charity through this final donation from the anniversary fund.
"It has been a privilege to see this fund benefit three outstanding charities, each making an incredible contribution in very different ways, and I would like to thank everyone who has helped make these donations possible."
Andrew Templeton, Chief Executive at YMCA Cardiff said:
"We are incredibly grateful to Swansea Building Society for this generous donation. Support like this enables us to continue providing vital services for young people and individuals who need them most, helping them to develop confidence, independence and brighter futures.
"We would like to thank everyone at Swansea Building Society for recognising our work and choosing YMCA Cardiff as one of the beneficiaries of this special anniversary fund."
The £25,000 anniversary fund was created to celebrate Alun Williams becoming the longest-serving Chief Executive of any building society in the UK, marking 25 years in the role.
The fund is part of our wider commitment to supporting our local communities and the charities and causes that matter to them, including our partnership with Prostate Cymru, our official charity partner for 2026.
